Bilan de la toxicité aiguë
Le glyphosate possède une faible toxicité aiguë par les différentes voies d'exposition. Il est peu irritant pour la peau et les yeux et ce n'est pas un sensibilisant cutané. Les formulations de glyphosate semblent être plus toxiques que la matière active.

Bilan des effets à long terme
Le glyphosate a causé des effets chez les rats et les souris à des doses très élevées seulement. Les observations consistaient principalement en une baisse de poids corporel et en effets rénaux, hépatiques et oculaires. Il n'y avait aucune évidence de cancérogénicité. Dans des études sur la reproduction et le développement des animaux de laboratoire, les petits n'ont pas démontré de sensibilité accrue comparativement aux adultes après une exposition in utero et/ou postnatale au glyphosate. Il n'est ni génotoxique ni neurotoxique et il ne perturbe pas la fonction endocrinienne.
