Ce rodenticide a une persistance modérée dans les sols en condition aérobie (demi-vie de 28 à 32 jours). Il est résistant à l’hydrolyse pour les pH 7 et 9, mais est dégradé à pH 5 (demi-vie de 44 jours). Le produit de dégradation principal est l’acide diphénylglycolique. Cette matière active est faiblement soluble et elle a une constante d’adsorption sur le carbone organique (Koc) élevée (2255 ml/g). Le diphacinone est donc adsorbé sur la matière organique dans les sols et peu mobile.
